Bistro review: it was good - very fine pub food. I’d risottto as a starter was a tad too heavy - but hey that was my mistake. All else was good but saw two in the bistro take what they’d left into their napkins and thence into handbags for their pooches (or their own teas). Maybe prefer to spend a wee bit more for something exceptional in the restaurant. I’ll be back tho.

Two of us had dinner in restaurant. Comfortable surroundings and a comfortable temperature to relax in.
|Our meals were served very efficiently but Stephen could have smiled a bit more. The food was good and beautifully presented but it was too salty for out palates. Very giood selection of cheeses from which to choose.

I agree with XZ, its probably one of, if not, the best restaurants in the country and I am very fussy having travelled extensively around the world. We went as a party of six on a busy Christmas works do night 1st week in Dec, which made absolutely no difference to the high quality of food and service.
The chef and restaurant manageress certainly know what they are doing in this place.
Had been to Balloo a few times through the years and was usually dissapointed. This is definately not the case with this chef.
Couldn’t fault the place. Highly recommended.
We dined in the downstairs bistro.

Balloo is probably the best bistro in the country. I’ve been a regular for a few years now and never had anything less than a fantastic meal.
Service is prompt, friendly and authoritative. They know the food well and their recommendations are always appreciated.
While I would love to see a bit more variety of seafood on the menu, every meal is a treat and perfectly cooked.
Four of us enjoyed a three course meal on Saturday night, the place was absolutely rammed but the service and food were fantastic.
I can’t wait to go back.

A family favourite for, well decades it must be, although I personally only have experience in recent years. Always excellent, and Sunday’s dinner in the bistro was no exception.
Service is spot-on, menu has variety but not overwhelming, and good choice of wine and drinks.
The food was so good even my sisters ate everything… I was a little disappointed at this as I normally get seconds and extra dessert! There’s no point detailing everything, but the simple garnish to my steak was really note-worthy as were the garlic potatoes.
Brilliant, but be sure to book ahead.

My wife and I dined at the Balloo House Restaurant last night and the standard of food and service blew us away.
My wife had langoustines in an open ravioli to start which she loved and I had carpaccio of dexter beef which was sublime.
For main she had dexter beef fillet, again cooked to perfection whilst my pork loin and pork belly was delightful especially with the sweet potato pancake and washed down with a beautiful rioja.
We finished off with a strawberry and champagne trifle with strawberry and pistachio salad. A superb end to an excellent meal.
Staff were attentive and friendly and the decor was comfortable without stuffiness. We will definitely be going again.

As something of a regular at Balloo House I’ve yet to be disappointed by the standard of food, service and atmosphere. Situated just outside Killinchy, Balloo House is frequented by visitors from near and far. With award winning chef, Danny Millar, the food is always top notch, my particular favourites from the bistro are the mushroom risotto for starter and the chicken fillet with creamy bacon and mushroom sauce as a main. If you intend trying it out make sure you book early as weekends are often booked out well in advance.
