Went in with a friend around 7pm Friday of last week, it was past 6 and every other coffee place in the city had closed! It would seem the owner kept it open due to it being quite busy, and even though he was on by himself we received a fantastic service! Very friendly, a bit of banter, didn’t have to wait long on our ice coffees (which was the BEST was the best I’ve ever had!) and to top it off FREE CHOCOLATE!

Will most definitely be back!!

It took a second try to find the Belfast Coffee Company’s appeal. The staff really took care of me, the coffee was good (not amazing) and the food fine. But they’ve got the little touches to make themselves stand out - the free chocolate, WiFi, custom service, all that loveliness.

I take back my judgement of their coffee! I was drinking the filter coffee (which is good), not the Americano (which is fantastic). Met the owner too, who seems genuine and friendly.

I work just round the corner from this place so i call in quite regularly, and i’ve been going since the opening. I feel the service standards have slipped big time. While the staff are friendly and welcoming, they always seem quite flustered and take ages to bring your order, one of the last times i was there i ordered stew and my friend ordered the goats cheese croustini. The food was delicious, however the waitress brought my stew first then brought my friend’s food 15 minutes later, and we had to ask for it twice. By the time my friend’s food arrived i had to go back to work and she had to eat alone.

I went last monday for lunch and asked what the quiche was, when the girl looked unsure i said “is it just a quiche lorraine?” and i was told yes. When the quiche arrived ages later, it was mushroom/veggie quiche. I hate mushrooms but had to get back to work in 10 minutes and didn’t have time to order something else so I ate it anyway…

Last grievance, the chocolate with the coffee is a great idea, but if you go in when they’re busy, they’ll forget about it.

I gave the place 2* instead of 1 because they started off well, it’s a nice place in a nice location and if the owner invested in his staff a little it could be much better.

Needless to say, i don’t think i’ll bother going back. Clements round the corner is a much safer bet.

The service was a little random, but staff were still very helpful- just not very organised.

The scones were ENORMOUS and the coffee was tasty so I would definitely go back!

Nice enough place with really friendly and helpful staff.

A little pricey for what you get but I don’t mind that as long as the atmosphere is nice. Unfortunatley it’s not. When I was in they had the music blaring and it was hardly relaxing stuff.

My bacon quiche had no bacon in it, so I ended up paying £4.95 for a small slice of veggie quiche. Lovely big pot of tea with it though.

Strong and reliable wifi signal, but not an atmosphere I could sit in for long so it was a bit pointless. I’ll probably not be back.

Popped in here for a quick take away latte recently. Looks like a great place, the people serving us were very friendly and talkative and had us served quickly.

The chocolate that came with the coffee was a nice unexpected treat.

Classy decor, friendly staff, delicious home-made food, free luxury chocolate to partner your drink of choice.

By far it is the best coffee house I have visited recently.

I heartily recommend the french toast or goats cheese tartlet.  Devine.

If I could make one recommendation it would be to increase the size of the drinks.  A large americano is on par with a regular in most other establishments.  On my first outing I made the mistake of ordering a regular and thought I was at a dolls tea party when it arrived.

I went in for lunch this wk and the place was packed. So i had to come back a few hrs later as i wanted to enjoy my latte in peace lol. There may be a few things to improve but u dont get coffee with a compli chocolate handed out to u by a very friendly guy (think he was the owner). Coffee was one of the better ones ive tasted in belfast, food tasted homemade and i really enjoyed the atmosphere. The guy was very accommodating of customer requests too. Looking around the cafe i noticed some pictures on sale and i think u dont get that in a lot of cafes in belfast. Staff were friendly enough. Place was clean. I would say my experience was quite good and im definitely coming back.

I still think its more about the taste (quality) and the ambience rather than the size of the cup (unless ur quite the petty one)...thats what a real cafe is about.

Went today, its better, but there’s still a ways to go.

Ventilation was much improved, its no longer a steamy sauna. Service was quick enough, but I was the only customer in the queue.

But, its the coffee that’s the real failing. The take away cups are still way too small for the price. A large is approximately half the size of a large in Starbucks, and about 2/3 the size of Clements. The coffee itself was average, flavour was nothing out of the ordinary.

The fugdge cake was quite good, and the lady at the till checked to ensure that I had no nut allergy before serving it.

All in all, its reasonable, and worth a try to see if it fits in with your tastes.

Great atmosphere, but I ordered a large Americano and the cup I got would barely register as a ‘regular’ at Clements a few doors down. I figured it must be very special to get so little for £2, but it didn’t deliver. I’ll be sticking to Clements, at least until these guys up the ante a bit.

I really love this place. It’s been open for two month now and from the other reviews it seems that they had some teething problems… But that is to be expected/accepted when somewhere first opens.

I would urge some of the others who visited it when it first opened to go back for a second try.

They serve lovely homemade soup, sausage rolls and buns. I had a mozzarella, sun blushed tomato and pesto crustini which was sooo nice. Specials are changed/altered everyday so you are never without choice.

The atmosphere is quiet and chilled which is great when catching up on some last minute work. Free wi-fi is a big bonus too.

Free filter coffee refills and a handmade chocolate with any hot drink are lovely touches that make the place feel very homey and unique.

A great place to organize events as you can reserve the first floor mezzanine.

The staff are nice and friendly.

If your looking for a bog standard coffee try starbucks… But if your looking for something unique and a bit of an experience I would definitely The Belfast Coffee Company.

I hardly ever write reviews on here… Only when I feel very strongly about a place… So you know I’m serious lol

Got a ‘large’ carmel latte - cant remember exact cost but about £2.50. It was very small for the price however it was likely the best I’ve ever had!

Probably to the disgust of coffee snobs I’m a bit of a Starbucks fan and at that price the taste difference just isn’t enough to get me back - even with ‘Belfast’ in the name!

For a place called the belfast coffee company, they have really let themselves down, the milk is over heated and the coffee is under extracted, considering you can go another 30 secs down to the road to clements and get a bigger, better cup of coffee for 5p more its not very impressive

I think the previous two are being unfair. Guy on till is owner and dead friendly. Coffee is far better than Starbx ... Small cup is good - like Italy. Its all about the taste .. Who want a bucket of milk anyway ?

I had a steak and guinness pie and is was delicious. This is a great wee find and I’m sure hey will iron out any small issues as they get a loyal coffee lover following. Definitely have to try ...

I totally agree with the first poster.  The coffees are extremely small for the price.  The ventilation is also awful, you’d need fog lights going in!  The service is slow and the guy on the till isn’t communicating properly with other members of staff.  Very disappointing.

They may be friendly, but…..

“Large” coffees are around the same size as a small in Starbucks. So while £2.60 for a large mocha may seem reasonable, when you consider the size of the cup its actually quite expensive.

The cafe itself needs to be better ventilated. Today at lunch it was like being in a sauna, its so steamy that my lungs hurt.

Worst of all though, they aren’t actually any good at making coffee. Most places train staff before the shop opens, but given how quickly this place was fitted out, and how soon after it was opened, its clear that little time was given to training. The guy at the till seems very disorganised, and doesn’t communicate the orders clearly to the other members of staff. The barista is quite slow, taking 12 minutes to make 5 cups of coffee.

Its a real shame, the inside of the cafe has been finished to a high standard (think updated Clements). Maybe in time it will get better, but with so much choice in town, and indeed nearby, coffee shops need to be of a high standard to survive.

Just opened today and the coffee was lovely. The owner is very friendly and was handing out complimentary chocolates that were lovely and coconutty!

The atmosphere was very quiet, there was no music but I imagine something like Starbucks jazzy numbers to play in there.

All in all, I think there are some wrinkles to be ironed out, but the coffee absolutely sold it for me with a Small Latte costing £1.95. They also have soup/stew/quiche and other food that smelt great!
