Ed's Bar & Grill reviews (33)

Went to eds diner before the cinema as part of the meal deal. It was advertised on their website that very day that if you ordered a main meal over 9.95, you got a free starter and desert plus half price cinema tickets. This appealed to us and was the very reason we went (at the times advertised as available for this deal). Unfortunately when we got there we asked about the deal but the waiter just shrugged and told us “no that deals not on anymore” but offered no more explanation as to why, when we questioned him about this he said he would check with the manager but came back to say the same thing “you cant get that deal anymore” - very dissapointing!!! Will not be back as this seems to me to be false advertising!!!

We have frequented Ed’s several times and every time we ask ourselves why we bothered. The nintendo ds/dvd’s are a nice touch which the kids love, but the food leaves a lot to be desired. The customer service is inconsistent-some waitresses/waiters nice- others, not so much. Supervisory staff could do with a little customer service re-training!
Advice - concentrate on good quality ingredients rather than too many choices on the menu. Ensure supervisory staff are well trained. This then filters through to the waiting staff.

Ate in Ed’s today. Very disapointed. Started badly when the waitress told my child to shhh while she explained the menu. The wait for the food was too long, the food was bland and a bit over priced. £1 for a bit of cheese for top of the burger and another £1 for a bit of bacon. That’s an extra £2 on top of a burger that is already £6 and sides are extra again. £6.50 for a kids meal (does include drink), 2 sausages and a few chips. We sat at a table that had a T.V so the kids could watch a D.V.D but then my oldest boy got asked not to sit too close to it encase it got knocked off the table. One waiter was very friendly and i felt bad for not leaving him a tip but i just couldn’t!!
It was the most stressful dinning experience i’ve ever had with my kids i definatly won’t be back.

Went to Ed’s today at lunchtime . Were met at the door by a friendly chap who offered my daughter a selection of dvds. We were then told we would be seated upstairs a bit awkward as we had our baby with us in his buggy the waiter said he would help me up the stairs with the buggy which was a bit hair raising as it was 2 flights of stairs!!We were seated and the menus were explained to us “If you order a dish costing £10 or more you can chose a free dessert and a starter from a small select menu” This didn’t really appeal to us as it was 12.15 and we only wanted a quick bite however as the dishes are all on the pricey side and then chips and side dishes are extra it does not take a lot of effort to hit the £10 total. I ordered the chicken goujon stack with chips and the hubby order a burger and chips so we were both automatically entitled to the meal deal. I reluctantly order the garlic mushroom bruschetta (which turned out to be one piece of frozen garlic bread with some garlic mushrooms tossed on it) and the hubby had the garlic bread with chilli and cheese (which was 3 slices of same frozen garlic bread with cheese and chilli sauce). When bringing over our starters the waitress brought my daughter’s meal of chicken tenders and chips with them. I asked could she take her meal away so that we could all have our main meals together ( why on earth would they want a 4 year old child to have finished her meal before the parents have even received theirs??????) The waitress looked puzzled and said “Would you like me to try and keep it warm” to which I told her I thought it was a bit daft not to serve everyones meals together. She said she would ask some-one but just disappeared with the plate of food and did not offer any apology or explanation. The plate of food reappeared re-heated I presumed when our main meals arrived. My stack of chicken goujons were exactly the same as my daughter’s chicken tenders and accompanying them was a very very small portion of chips ( I counted 8 chips in total) My 4 year old daughter’s portion was about 3 times the size of mine and fortunately hers were included in the price and not charged as an extra side dish. I queried the portion size with the waitress andwas told it was a half portion ( at the bargain price of £1.10) she informed us that you will always get a half portion unless you specifically request a full sized portion!!!!) We didn’t bother waiting around for our desserts which were included in the price and to add insult to injury I had to struggle back down the stairs unaided with the buggy. Poor Poor Poor!!!

Ed’s is a great restaurant that caters for families. We have been here a number of times and ALWAYS have had a lovely meal. The staff don’t just take your order, but they actually aren’t scared to interact with customer’s which is a big thumbs up in my opinion.
The food is delicious and I can’t recommend this place enough.
TRY IT, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!

The service we received at Ed grill was second to none. The welcome was very reassuring of what was to come. The menu offered a superb choice of dishes and when the order arrived did not feel let down. The restaurant itself was very clean and the staff neat and tidy. It is an establishment I would thoroughly recommend to any of my friends.

Enthusiastic and friendly greeting upon arrival. All staff very helpful and efficient. Children no problem well looked after with dvds etc. Menus excellent for all ages and tastes. Exceptionally clean every where (including toilet facilities). I would highly recommend Ed’s to everyone should it be for lunch, early evening or group outing to a couple having a nice meal out.

Love Ed’s bar and grill, the food is delightful! I have never had a bad meal from here. Very tasty.
The only complaint I had about last time i went was that i used a groupon voucher. They put me and my boyfriend upstairs and there wasn’t one other couple it was all families with young children. It was very noisy and we asked to be moved. We were advised we may not be able to be moved as it was busy- this kind of put me off as it seemed just because we had a groupon voucher we were treated differently. The member of staff then came back and did eventually move us.
Other than that all of my other experiences at Ed’s have been fab!

The food here is good at times, but the sides such as the chips are greasy and tastless, actually scrap that, they do have a taste, that of the dirty, greasy oil that all sorts of food has been bunged into all day .. Which basically tastes like crap , they need to sort this , it is a pretty basic thing! This also really annoys me when im paying over the odds for a main which doesnt even come with a side!! To add to this I have had the same meal on several occasions and have both times came away sick from it, the mince is pure disgusting! No joke!! So therefore If I need to eat here for whatever reason I stick to the safe option!

Great American style restaurant. Great Staff have been a regular for some time until last year not because of the food or staff but starting to see the pinch. The prices have increased and some offers removed or replaced. Still enjoy dropping by the odd weekday or weekend for some grub and a bit of entertainment. Some food is tasty but some like the steak pie to salty or bland. Other than that tied everything going especially the Rump steak and enjoyed. 5stars for Staff, food, entertainment and free cinema ticket deal.

I visit Eds quite often as I find it a friendly restaurant in which you are made welcome from start to finish. The staff can’t do enough for you from start to finish and Frank never let’s a customer walk by without saying hello! I’m also quite a fussy eater due to a bad stomach, and often find certain foods too heavy and greasey in most places, however Eds is always spot on!! Portion sizes are great, and if your too stuffed to eat your pudding, they’ll happily box it up for you!! Great wee spot, and the only place I eat out!

We have visited Ed’s on numerous occasions with never a complaint to be made. Our youngest son was celebrating his 21st this week, so on the one spare night in his celebration diary we had a family dinner in what can only be known as the BEST family restaurant you can find.
Frank along with the staff on duty made us feel welcome right from the moment we arrived. Balloons and poppers on the table and before we could be seated activity toys were placed on the table ready for arrival of our 15 month old grandson.
Service was second to none, even having a good joke with the waiting staff. Our waitress was a real pleasure nothing and I mean NOTHING was too much trouble.
Starters arrived in good time as well as the mains. Steak cooked to perfection, it makes a nice change to get it cooked exactly how you asked for. Our grandson really enjoyed having some of everyone’s meal, he made short work of the pieces of steak he was given. Our daughter can be very fussy with food and quite regularly leaves a lot of her meal when out for dinner. Not this time, she gave high praise for the goats cheese pizza.
We can honestly say that in our eyes this restaurant offers the best value for money out of all the restaurants in Lisburn.
Now don’t just listen to me prattling on about it, get in there and give it a try, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!!

We visit Eds fairly regulary and I must say its a pleasure to do so. The staff are extremely friendly and accomodating, there are dvds, computer games, and toys to entertain the kids, upstairs there are 2 widescreen tvs which is great but I wish they would change the DVD which is on continuous loop of Jeremy Clarkson presenting a show about crashing racing cars. The food is typical of a good American Grill Bar, contrary to what patriciaiscool says about the the burgers I have to completely dissagree, You can tell it is decent beef by the shape, consistency and taste and not some leftovers or cheap processed rubbish. The mexican seabass is very tasty as is most of the other dishes I have tried, Their chips are also very nice and you can tell they are freshly cut. The only things I can think of which were not great were the onion rings (too greasy) and a steak sandwich I had about a year ago, it was tough and flavourless however I have had their normal steak and that was great. On pricing it’s about what I would expect from an American Diner maybe slightly more expensive but overall good value for money as the food is good. I would recommend Ed’s to everyone especially families although if its a romantic meal for two maybe not the place for you.

Saturday Afternoon, my partner and me took our 3 year old son to this diner we saw on the internet.
Heard a few things on twitter about the place giving the kids DS’ and portable DVD players which I had reservations about. ( Kids given rented technology surrounded by food can go VERY bad for parents ) Boy was I wrong.
From the door and back out the door later, the whole experience was worth more than five stars. I would not say the staff where well trained, I would say they where being themselves. Well mannered, excellent with kids ( Yes, a waitress actually talked to my son a few times, which was unheard of. He actually blushed too )
If my son where a bit older and had a DS he would not have got much use out of it for the wait for food, Starters arrived promptly with the main meal a few moments after we finished.
The food. Amazing. Full stop. Everyone loved it. A few people here have haggled the price, the portions we received fit the bill, and with the atmosphere and service tied into that price, we got a bargain.
Defiantly going back, and asking for a doggy bag too.

Situ - Family of five on Sunday afternoon
Service - well trained staff and attentive. DVD handed out on arrival Longer wait than expected for simple food
Food - dreary and tasteless. I could have got the same from a greasy spoon for half the price. Ordered a veggie wild mushroom quesadilla and there was ONE mushroom in it and not very wild lookin either!
Overall - well staffed, nice but noisy environment. Food, at best uninspiring, at worst, simply awful and not up to scratch for price. Sorry doods

Staff are brilliant, foods better now they’ve extended their menu. Great we place to stop at on your way through Lisburn.

Think John lol must be on Ed’s payroll along with the abundance of staff that work there, it is just a pity loads of staff doesn’t equate to good service. I would tend to agree with Joanne and Rose stay clear!!!!!!!!!!

Dear John
How can you write about somewhere you’ve never been??? Please explain that one to me???? LOL I think the same goes for you, you’ll never make it as a restaurant reviewer. I have been to both of these restaurants. I had good experience in both of them but when i went to Eds with my small children we were stuck upstairs, out of the way. I was looking to go out for a family meal to then have the children be handed DVD’S to watch. I didn’t take my kids out to ignore them. Have you ever tried walking down a flight of stairs with 2 sleeping children maybe you should try it.The food is good in both restuarant as is the service, however i find Springsteens Diner to be cheaper and slightly less intimidating.
13/05/10
Eds is as what it should be a place to eat and enjoy a night out unlike the incorrect comments below i have never eaten in springsteens but have never had a good report about it i feel that joanne maybe should try and work somewhere else lets face it she would never make it as a restaurant reviewer lol ed’s is a safe and family freindly restaurant

Went to Eds bar and grill with the kids and the inlaws for a meal. I ordered a burger and assuming from what I received I can only assume they are still using the remainder 99p burgers from the former disaster which was Eds Express however this time I had the privelege of being charged £8.99 for it and that wasn’t including a side order. The kids meal and the inlaws didn’t look or taste much better. The service if anything was completely over the top leaving me feeling seriously uncomfortable. Their only redeeming factor was that they had a few dodgy DS LITES to entertain the kids. We normally go to Springsteens but fancied trying something different, NOT A MISTAKE WE WILL MAKE AGAIN it ended up costing us twice the price for half the quality. AVOID AT ALL COSTS !!!!!!!!!!

I recently visted eds after being badgered on the street by the staff, have been to eds before and did not have a good experience, but thought i would give them a second chance as believe everyone deserves a second chance, how wrong was I. After going in and trying to figure out the badly laid out MENUS, we new we were not on to a winner, the food was of a very low standard. It was like a horrible holiday to spain or something people trying to get u in off the street to try out there resturant and then when u get in its as bad as you thought. You know things are bad when you have to give away food to get people to eat in your resturant. How many offers do they want to have. I will never be back to Eds and you know what they say bad experiences travel fast, so i will most certaintly not be recommending Eds to anyone in my work, family or with my friends. Ive tried out the american resturant across the road no stupid offers no badgering a quick friendly service and really good atmosphere if only we’d have went there the first time.

Not sure if Eds is under new managment but this place is like restaurant version of pound land. Offers everywhere, cant see out thru the windows for posters offering this that and the other. The place screams of desperation. Not a place one wants to be seen in. Maybe the new owner was a car sales man. Good luck to them

I went here on saturday nite i had a table booked for my friends and myself for a hen nite . I was discussed when i was told i had to wait 40 mins on a table i had already booked. Anyways worked out for the best springsteens across the way was very busy and i asked if they had a table for us and they took us straight away . Big ed has lost my custom any ways

US themed, family friendly restaurant made special with kids DVDs/Games and very pleasant staff who are obviously well trained. Good spot for quick pre or post movie family meal.

Always have a good time in here. Service is excellent, they really take care of you. The guy who seats you, who I think is the manager and called Frank, is very friendly and good craic.
Food is top notch. I usually go for the shared starter and then a burger or fajitas. Really decent prices.
I see kids get DVD players and Nintendo DSs to keep them occupied so definitely one for the families too.

We go there at least twice a month with the family, always great, staff are very friendly, the food really exceeds expectation every time & they have a great new menu. Our kids never want to go anywhere else, they even prefer it to the dreaded Mc Donalds.
However we have never gone there with just adult friends, did that on Saturday night, 3 couples night out no kids!!!!
Was a wee bit worried if it would be as good, as the other 2 couples had never been, we have recommended it to lots of friends, but all with kids.
We got a great downstairs booth, from where we could see all the action. We were recognised at the door as regulars & that really impressed our guests, but when I looked around I could not see one single child??
We had never thought about it before as we always get a great upstairs booth complete with flat screen DVD player, but clearly the first floor is used for families & the ground floor for adults.
So that was a nice surprise, my wife & I were amazed we had never twigged on before. I guess we always have had such a good time it never registered.
Any way, just to say we had the same fantastic food, mains included, Sea bass, the biggest burger I have ever seen, a fillet steak, fajita’s (spelling?), what our friend described as the best veggi dish she has ever tasted, a mix of cranberries, brie etc in pastry, wild hog! & a peppered chicken. It really was brilliant & to make it ever better, two of us ate off the fixed price dinner menu, 3 courses for £17.50. Then to cap our evening off the big guy who I think is the owner, came over & said hello & bought us a round of Bailey’s. Our friends were just blown away, the quality of the food, service & hospitality. I said to my wife, I was going to drop them an e mail to say thank you & just came across this web site, when searching on google for Ed’s. Know this goes on a bit but it really is the best & most versatile restaurant we have ever been to.

With access to portable DVD players, Nintendo DS consoles and a selection of movies and games, it’s the most child friendly restaurant we’ve ever been in.
An absolute must to try out if you have young kids. You get to enjoy your meal in peace while the kids are entertained.

Great food, great service. Excellent theme nights and great for kids birthdays. Great value for money

It’s got to be the closest thing to a US bbq joint feel I’ve experienced in Northern Ireland.
Great ribs and great customer service. One of the managers is always on the floor.
