This was only my fourth visit to a cinema in as many years while I’ve been living in Belfast, and I can honestly say, this particular Odeon has probably put me off going to any cinema anywhere ever again. I’m a New Yorker so I don’t hold the punches.

The whole experience was a nightmare. Its almost as if the staff have never been in a cinema before, know nothing about customers and even less about customer service.

If you’re into rude incompetent staff and rave about extortionate prices, you’re in luck! This is the place for you.

I’m confident that if you read a positive review here, its just a member of staff masquerading as a happy member of the public.

Avoid avoid avoid….try The Strand, or even the one in the Odyssey is better, well the staff are better trained at least.

Whoever thought to sell tickets at the same counter as food and drink? I cannot write my thoughts here and have them approved unfortunately.

Terrable Cinema…. Went to watch The Grey, which was in screen one….. Because of the film, which is all in snow, you can clearly make out the damage all across the screen…. Looks almost like a checker board.  This rendered the film unwatchable, and as for the seating…. You have to pay extra to sit in the middle of the cinema.  What on earth is that about.  I understand if you want to pay extra and go and use the VIP seating at the odyssey, at least you feel like you are getting something extra with the lazy boy chairs.

The only complement was with the staff, who where friendly and helpful.

Seriously unimpressed with this cinema..was having a lovely evening with the bf, went to dinner in vic square..timed it so we could see a film at the odeon to get in early & get good seats.

When buying our tickets our assistant was carrying on and quoting off lines from the league of gentlemen which we thought quite weird but ignored it..as well as repeating our order a couple of times as well…we laughed it off and went to sit in our seats in screen 6..we waited 15 mins only to find out the wrong film was playing…we went outside thinking we had walked into the wrong cinema..but no the counter quoting assistant give out the wrong movie..

Very annoyed about this the manager said we could go into the right film but it had already started 15 mins..unimpressed I said I wasnt pleased and they only refunded our tickets not our drinks and we didn’t get a sorry..

Ruined our entire night as we had decided to go here instead of our local cityside cinema…Never Again…staff are rubbish

A crazy start to our cinema visit as place packed with children and perhaps not enough staff to cope.

Once we got to the top of the line we were looked after really well and informed that we didnt need to pay the extra for premium seats as we could be placed in the row right behind them :)

Then we decided upon the loyalty card as we seem to be here quite a lot and its worth the initial £1.99 fee

We were also told about the showings of 80/90’s movies each monday.

Becca and I had been given 2 free tickets for The Odeon so we decided to go along on 30th December, her birthday.

Firstly you are struck by the fact that there is only one counter (with 3 staff) for tickets and food. This causes an inordinate wait whilst people decide which vat of cola to have and how many barrels of popcorn. We arrived (eventually) at the counter, only to be told that our tickets weren’t valid for this day, a Thursday matinee. The reasons being it was a 3D film, and that this was peak time. It said this NOWHERE on the ticket (other than ‘not valid during special promotions’). So after much deliberation we paid our £8.50 EACH for our tickets (£1 each for 3D glasses - which you can keep - ooooh) and £2.30 for a 500ml bottle of water. I recently noticed 4x1.5litre bottles of water in Tesco for £1.19. The reason this annoys me is not the price difference, but the fact that you are not allowed to take in your own drinks or food - such a shamelessly blatant rip-off. We were allocated seat numbers (front or back was offered. Eh?!?!). We then walked in to an empty screen and sat where we wanted. (The film was great - although not enhanced by out of focus 3D)

We used our free tickets a few weeks later (on a Saturday - surely another peak time!!), and sat where we wanted again. Oops - when we left we noticed that the seats were ‘premium’ seats. These, unllike the regular seats, were black. Some reason for upgrading.

First impressions always last. Our first impression of The Odeon Victoria Square was dreadfull.

I went to Odeon Cinemas as a child in the 70s and they held a special magic (I saw Star Wars at The Odeon Guildford in 1977), this has been lost in an avalanche of appallingly unhealthy and low quality food, and a desire to make money in the name of a ‘great movie experience’. Stick with The Strand or the QFT, folks.

Easily accessible, good selection of movies. Nice clean cinema. Some screens better than others. And you are assigned seats always good if you have a large party

I love the Premiere Club - I go to the cinema quite regularly, so build up loads of points to use.  I agree that it can be a bit pricey with food and parking on top, but they’ve introduced some new offers which are pretty good value.  Plus they do cheap Tuesdays and I would much rather sit in that environment, than in the packed, noisy Moviehouse!  Their popcorn could be nicer, but the fact that it’s so clean and central wins it for me every time!

The odeon really could be a great cinema. I like the location and the quality of the screen and sound are excellent.

The seating arrangements is the cinemas biggest let down. Picking and booking your seat online is useless as when you arrive somebody tends to already be sitting in it. It would be easy enough to challenge them if you had booked a seat at the edge of each row, but I’d feel like a bit of an idiot plodding through a row full of people to eventually get into an argument with whoever had stolen my seat and the decent people I have unsettled in the row. I would prefer a free for all like Moviehouse and Storm.

It also irritates me that you have to pay extra to sit in the seats offering the best view of the screen. These aren’t as comfortable as those you would find in the VIP section of Storm and are somewhat similar to those found in a standard screen.

The seats are tiered which gives a good view of the screen and means I don’t have to slump in the chair as I do in the Moviehouse, as I am quite tall and would obscure the view of others.

The food is overpriced as every cinema is, haven’t given the nachos a go yet but I intend to soon.

I’ve found myself going to this cinema over Storm recently, as Storm, for a reason unknown to me, have cut all of their late night showings.

For the price I’d expect the seats to be much better to be honest.  Not the most comfortable especially if you are there for one of the longer films.

The price is slightly off set with the premier club thankfully.  All I have managed to get is some free tickets after I built up the points, not other special offers yet and I’ve had it since it started.

Slightly more expensive than the other offerings in Belfast but the level of comfort and the location makes it probably the best cinema in Belfast.

We go to Odeon at least once a week. Best cinema in town in my opinion. Friendly staff and good size screens. They also have a Ben & Jerrys counter.. Perfect!

HATE HATE This cinema. Wiredbob is clearly the manager or someone who works there, nice sales effort there lol.

Seats are dreadful and really left me sore and not a lot of legroom. Reminded me a bit of sitting on an easyjet flight.

Staff are lacking in terms of training, but not as much as the management, when I complained about my seat I got treated like I had just slapped them. Which really made me want to. Far too pricey.

I live pretty close so I’ll just cross the road to Storm where I know I’ll have a good cinema experience.

The Odeon is definitely the cinema of choice in Belfast.  What got me was the size of the screens and the quality (and loudness) of the surround sound.  Can’t think of any other cinema like it in NI.  Well worth a visit for those big blockbusters, and if you don’t like crowds go early on a Sunday morning - very quiet.

Just don’t park in the Victoria Square car park, it’ll double the cost of your movie at least.

Get to the negatives first, vic square carpark is quite expensive!

Seating in the cinema is done by seat numbers, which is a big plus if you book early and get the best seats in the house.

Screens are all fairly large and cinema experience in terms of sound etc is fairly good, but aren’t they all?

Now to the imnportant part, the food!!

Nacho’s in odeon aren’t bad, although the cheese sauce lacks a bit from the likes of movie house standards.

Ben & Jerries in house is always favoured, cookie dough just goes so well with the average romcom these days.

All in all, good experience, and if you fancy a change from dublin road, try it out!

I have been to all the cinemas in Belfast and the Odeon is by far the best. The place is clean, the staff are friendly, and I find the seats very comfortable. And for those who complain about the price, it is only 25p more expensive than most of the other cinemas in Belfast. They also do £3 per ticket on a Tuesday and they do Flashbacks on a Monday night, I have seen some fantastic classic film back on the big screen.

As with many reviews here I had serious problems with my seat. About half way through the film my back got extremley sore. I think what made this experience worse was the fact that I had sneaked onto a VIP seat! I dread to think what the normal seats are like.

Thing is while everything else was great, bad seating in a cinema is like watching a football match in the dark.

Seats weren’t very comfortable and the popcorn wasn’t very nice. Drinks machines were all out of action the night I went too. Teething problems I guess.

Nice location though if out doing some shopping and fancy a film after. And it has Ben & Jerrys ice cream. :)

Adding the cost of the parking into the slightly dearer ticket prices I would maybe choose elsewhere next time.

In agreement with “ciaranheenan”, the seats aren’t comfortable at all!  Not great when you are watching a film that is roughly 3 hours long.  It is over priced, as others have mentioned.  The only things going for it are the friendly staff and how clean it is (but this could be due to the fact it is still quite new).  The location is good because you have everything at hand in the city centre.

For a student like myself it is a bit far and a bit expensive. Compared to the Movie House Cinema at Dublin Road it has a lot to do to come close to it.

For me, the biggest downside of this cinema was the seating. As it’s a relatively new place I was expecting nice comfy viewing but was SORELY disappointed.

Apart from that everything else was fine but as Lee said it is quite pricey compared to others cinemas so I expected better.

It’s a nice cinema (and I do like the Ben & Jerrys ice cream stand) but it’s a bit pricey compared to other cinemas.

The ticket prices are slightly dearer and on top of that you have to pay for Victoria Square car parking, which adds on a few quid.

You can make a good evening of it though by doing some shopping and going to one of the many nearby restaurants beforehand.
