Mad ! Friend from London & I went in pre dinner and stood outside in the roped off area, having a pint, Doorman was quite happy. Beer average, interior dingy, but thats life.
Came back later, it was heaving, we queued and got in, got a pint and went to the roped off bit, The new Door woman told us we couldn’t go outside now.
Inside was a collection of unpleasant wideboys, we drank up and left, At which point the lady bouncer told me I was barred for repeatedly taking the pint outside, which I hadnt.
Probably the most ignorant woman I have ever met. Avoid at all costs. Personally I think they have issues with people who don’t have a Local accent. Tourists beware

I wouldnt of bothered going back to this place if it wasnt for aaron playing. Unfortunately we receieved the same shabby customer service. The staff seem to be on a power trip especially one so-called bouncer. We got chucked out ‘because last time we were to drunk’. It didint matter that we were relatively sober this time around. To be honest even last time we were fine. A bit hypocrital since it is a bar and they do sell alcohol! I will not be giving this bar another chance again. To be honest without the talent that is aaron etc the bar would be plain and boring. I am not the only one having views about staff. You just need to check out tripadvisor and bar belfast to see what i and many others are talking about.

Stay away. This bar is awful. The night started by us having to request three fresh glasses not once but twice. All had traces of dirt/lipstick or were hot to the touch. No such thing as a cold beer being served in this bar. Toilets downstairs stink. Did i mention the abusive Dj Ghost when we moved upstairs. Our crime? Asking for a request. Torrent of bad language and name calling by him. We didn’t even finish our drinks we left sober and upset. No other member of staff seemed interested in dealing with our complaint. Great customer service! Will not be back.
Visitors to Belfast, stay away from this bar . As a native to Belfast The Spaniard is an embarrassment. Go to the Duke of York around the corner.

Not a fan of this place. Why do they let so may in? Surely it is a fire hazard. This place would do much better customer satifaction wise if they controlled numbers but I guess it might suffer profits if they didn’t let so many people in. Sounds like catch 22.

The cute and cosy ‘like a local pub’ Spaniard is situated conveniently on Belfast’s Skipper Street- yes thank you, I will ‘skipper’ that street and head to bar where the atmosphere isn’t so flat and the staff are a little more welcoming.
In 2006 the bar was announced winner of the ‘Best New Bar Award’, something they are so proud of it is the only accolade they actually mention on their website- four years on!! I have to admit; the bar probably was a worthy winner of numerous awards years ago, however recently I can’t help but feel it has become a victim of its own earlier success.
Unless you are wrinkled and greying (or to put it more politely, someone in the 40+ age bracket) you probably won’t be made feel welcome in the Spaniard anymore. Punters from across the age sectors are not appreciated in the way they once were.
Any trace of individuality and character from both the bar and customers has been irradiated. Those who would have been quite frequent visitors are left to skulk in the shadows of the favoured band of merry regulars (who all look freakishly like they are all related in some way!!).
The ‘leave your stress at the door’ approach has turned into ‘I’m so stressed having just spent two hours arguing with the doorman as to why I should be allowed in the door, I feel like shooting up some heroin, so screw your over-priced pint’.
Back in the day the bar was definitely quirkier and even though you were at times packed into the place like a sardine, it didn’t seem as bad. And on the odd occasion a member of staff was having a bad day, you didn’t mind so much, because, well, everyone is entitled to an off-day (I strongly recommend that anyone visiting bring a tranquiliser gun with them- the staff can at times resemble the rabid dog roaming the streets in ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’).
I was once en el amor con the Spaniard bar… now with its pretence and lack of customer care, odio lo que se ha convertido!!

I only go here once in a blue moon and I think that is why I always have a great time any time I go down. I would probably quickly get nored if it became a regular jaunt but for the odd pint and catch up with a few friends it’s excellent.

A great wee bar for quiet drinks through the week or something busier at the weekend.
Can get very packed as a previous reviewer has stated.
Superb selection of rum.

I would disagree with Stephen, it is a small bar but it has loads of character. It has good food, beer and music. It currently has a tapas menu if you’re looking for something a little different at lunch. Check it out if your in town.

Small, cramped, useless bar. Trying too hard to be hip and trendy by craming as many people in as possible. There’s no way that this thing would pass a fire safety inspection on a busy night.
Only go here if you want to be 1 inch from all your friends, and be shoved into the few tables by random strangers as they realise their mistake and try to get out.
