Visited Wednesday early evening, 6 out of 7 main meals good. Thai Curry, Venison, Duck and Burgers all recommended. Side portions of mash potatoes with bacon and cheese well worth a try. Fish of the day Cod was thought to be dry. Service was a tad slow on the evening but there was a sense of business for a midweek evening, with a good atmosphere. Staff pleasent and attentive.

Went a while ago the menu looked great and ordered the lobster al forno (I think thats the name?), my God when I actually found the meat (there was more sauce than meat) it was like chewing on rubber. My other half ordered medium rare and would have been chuffed had he wanted it well cremated. Sides where greasy The staff however were pleasant and attentive. The hides on the wall were a bit unnerving - a bit like sitting eating a roast chicken in a chicken house, colour scheme was a little mix n match but gave it a quaint charm. Hopefully caught it on an off night might give it another chance…...

Went to the Tannery last night with a group of friends. I had phoned several weeks ago to book a table but was told that they do not take bookings on Wednesday nights as the restaurant upstairs is not open and that it is really quiet and a booking was definitely not necessary. I said I would be a bit concerned as there were friends coming over from England especially for the occassion but the member of staff firmly stated that the policy was “No bookings on Wednesday nights”. We arrived at 7.20pm and the bistro was quiet I told the waiting staff that we needed a table for 6 at 7.30 (when the rest of our party was due to arrive) and was asked to wait at a table until the rest of our party came. At 7.30 we were still waiting on one of our friends when the rather flustered manager came over to us and told us that the bistro was really busy now and if we didn’t take our table soon he would give it away (So much for not needing to book!!!!) He was extremely rude and I was mortified for chosing this venue my friends wanted to go somewhere else and it put a real dampener on the evening. Our other friend arrived at 7.35 and we were quickly seated by the manager who looked as if he was going to have a heart attack, he lead us to the restaurant upstairs (which had opened for the night apparently). We all really enjoyed our food I had a burger with pesto, parma ham and mozarella with chunky chips and the girls had scampi and bang bang chicken which were all cooked perfectly too. The desserts were also yummy and we had a lovely friendly waitress who happily took photos for us and was really well informed about the dishes on the menu.
All in all we had a great night with the exception of the run in with the sour faced manager but I definitely think the Tannery should re-think their policy on not taking bookings if this is impacting on their customer service and causing their staff to feel stressed.

Girl greeting at the door polite and friendly,
Barman and waitress seemed fed up and bored,
Tables were clean,
Food, very over priced and disappointing. I ordered the T bone they call “The One”. It was really small and the first thing I thought was ‘Is that it?’ The plate was more occupied by the small handful of chips and bowl of peppered sauce than by the steak I’d ordered. If anyone has eaten steak in America or other countries they may know what a steak should be.
This is advertised as the best steak in Ireland. It’s not and shouldn’t be allowed to say it is. It’s just average, nothing special at all.
I really felt they were just ripping people off. Advertising it as such and charging £26:99 shouldn’t be allowed.
If the prices were average for the average food provided I could recommend it but I can’t recommend a £10 steak for £27 to anyone.
There’s much better out there at half the price. I don’t mind at all paying more but I do expect to get what I’m paying for but this was ripping people off.

Wanted somewhere different from the usual Belfast restaurants so decided to try The Tannery. I’d read the reports of the service but wall willing to give the place a go.
We arrived at about 8pm and were sat at our table after only a few minutes wait. Apparently you can’t book the Bistro, you just turn up.
Were told that the menu was new, but to be honest all that really changed were the prices - which had gone up and it was slimmed down. Nevertheless we ordered after getting our drinks.
We ordered two to share starters between the four of us, the Nachos were very disappointing but the seafood platter was good although rather expensive.
So far the service was good, not intrusive nor too slow either. The mains arrived and I was delighted with my order “The Rude Boy” burger, decent size portion! Everyone else was very happy with theirs and there wasn’t much left on the plates.
The place itself was very clean and the staff were great.
Overall we were very happy with our night out and will certainly be back.

I’ve been to the tannery a number of times since it opened and normally, dispute the fact the service always had been shocking I usually rate it quite high.
However, cuts in quality get on my goat. Venison is gone and a choice from the burger range and the beef alternative seemed to me like a pre-packed burger.
Steaks are still amazing though.
This place just needs to sort a few things out and get the service right.

Superb Setting, Superb Staff and Superb Steak. Absolutely excellent.
Highly recommended.

Monday night at 630, party of 6 adults and 4 young children, restaurant barely a quarter full. After sitting at our table for over ten minutes with no staff so much as looking our way, I had to go and find someone to ask for menus and to give kids food order to. This set the tone for the rest of the evening. Service was shockingly slow which is very difficult with four kids to amuse. Food wasn’t that great either. The evening was a birthday tea and to be honest it was pathetic. I will never be back, barely scrapes one star.

Great lunch with my wife and kids. Good service too. Recommend their burgers and bacon and cheese mash.

Went out for a family celebration on Easter Saturday to the Bistro because the restaurant was fully booked. This was our first visit since this establishment became The Tannery. All staff were very professional, polite and provided a very friendly and prompt service. All family ordered varieties of steak for their main course which was excellent and so were the selection of starters (no room for dessert). Would highly recommend food and excellent customer service.
22/04/11
One of the best places in the area for a steak or high quality burger. Service however is always terribly slow. 3 or 4 stars if the service was better.
Party of 6, 2 courses & drinks = £140.
Pros: Food, location
Cons: Terribly slow service on every visit (6 in total)
28/01/11
Excellent food, quick service on a week night. Menu varies, and is a little more adventurous than most, however I like that kind of thing. Never been at the weekend, but midweek in the Bistro is excellent.

Went today with my Mum and a lady friend who had eaten there before and invited us along. Beautiful establishment and surroundings and we were cheerfully greeted promptly and were fortunate enough to get the last table in the bar area. The place had a lovely buzz and yet relaxing charm about it. We all had a very large and delicious main course, quirkily named the “Rude Boy” which was a large burger with chicken goujons, bacon cheese onions. Delicious. Extremely courteous and chatty staff. We were in no rush as we were out for a relaxing afternoon, but if we had been pushed for time, one drawback I would mention was the time between courses as it seemed ages.
Overall a most pleasant experience.
22/10/10
Went to the Sunday carvery. Lovely choice of starters.Main courses were delicious and again good choices.Meat was lovely and tender.Again a lovely choice of different desserts and all that I tasted were delicious.I would thoroughly recommend it & we will be going back.
22/10/10
Went for the first time last night - WOW!!!! Super menu in nice surroundings - cant wait to return!!!!
21/10/10
i wonder where they got the design for this place was there on saturday night in the restaurant had to book two weeks in advance, have booked again loved the food smoked seabass fish dish was amazing even went to cocktail bar after great fun
21/10/10
We eat out mostly in Belfast but decided on the short train journey to Moira for a family visit to the Sunday carvery. Great day out! Relaxed atmosphere with staff who couldn’t have been more attentive. Excellent selection of hot and cold starters (including a very good taco) and freshly roasted meets. Vegetables nothing like the grey broccoli and tired carrots you get in most carveries. Good wine list too at good prices. We’ll go back.
16/10/10
Went to the Tannery last night. The car park was full and I was a bit worried by the bad reviews. Well, I can say we were not waiting longer than 25 mins, the meal arrived quickly, was hot and the staff were very helpful. The menu had a good variety with lots of vegetarian dishes. “I will be back”, and I would highly recommend the Bistro.
15/10/10
Having eaten at the Plough in hillsborough a number of times, myself, my partner & another couple decided to try the Tannery last weekend. The bistro was busy when we arrived at 7pm and so we had a drink in the bar while we waited for a table. For the meal itself all four of us went for steaks (It is a steak house after all). My rare ribeye and side of bacon & cheddar mash was excellent! The service was good, the staff friendly and helpful. All in all i was impressed by the tannery, will definitely return but not until after another trip to the plough!

A large party of us attended for a friends birthday. I had heard a lot of good things so I was expecting good food and good service. Unfortunately, it seems I was expecting too much.
Some of the orders were taken incorrectly for the starters but this was quickly rectified and we were given one of the wrong orders free of charge due to the error, which was nice. I shared a simple board of warm breads with oils and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Now I was looking forward to the blue cheese & grape burger I had ordered for the main course. My friend ordered a steak, to be cooked medium but it came out very well-done and some other people’s sides had not been administered as they ordered.
Biting into my burger I quickly realised it was not what I ordered. No cheese for a start and some very spicy relish. Calling the waiter over, I explained to him. He told me that was exactly what I ordered! I explained that I was expecting blue cheese and opened my burger to show him. He repeated: “That’s it on the button mate!” ...
... at this point I was questioning even my own knowledge of cheese! All I could see was onion rings, spicy red relish and a scrape of creme fraiche.
He was not only rude by arguing with me (the customer) but was utterly wrong about the most basic parts of the menu. The head waiter came over at this point and intervened. He took my friends steak away and my own meal and came back promptly with the correct orders. The steak, he said, was on the house and some complimentary sides were given to the entire table.
This went some way to rectifying the mistakes but I would not go back again after the poor service. Nor would I recommend it to anyone. A real shame.

I have been to the Tannery a few times now, the first time i went it was awful, all the staff seemed to be young and inexperienced and were contantly looking for something to do, we were asked if we wanted to order our food 4 times in the space of 5 minutes. Again when we returned with friends the waiter brought us over a drink, we told him we hadn’t ordered it which made him act rude and not give us the time of day the whole time we were there, to top it all off he put the drinks on our bill, that guy used to greet people at the front door, i can understand why he doesn’t now as his attitude stinks. The food is nice though :-)
16/09/10
Ate at the Tannery a couple of weeks after they opened, got a table upstairs and waited forever for someone to come and take a drinks order and waited a lifetime again after that for food order to be taken,
Waitress when she was attending our table was nice and the food was good. Was a little over priced for lunch. I later found out its the same menu as the dinner menu.
I give them the benifit of doubt and put it down to a new business and teething problems.
However, that doesnt seem to be the case. I read many reviews yesterday, the majority of which were bad, I though it couldnt be possible for it to be this bad! I rang them in the morning and asked had they a web site that i could browse and look at menus etc, the guy told me ‘yea!’ i asked what it was and he said ‘the tannery bar’, i then had to ask was it .co.uk or .com, what surprised me was the fact that he didnt know. I then asked at this stage for the menus to be emailed to me. he advised this was no problem and he would do it straight away!! 5 hours later I had to ring them back as no menus were ever received!! I spoke to a differnt man this time and he advised again it will be done straight away.. its now more than 24 hrs later and im still waiting!
I mentioned this to a few girls in work today and they all advised me to stay away from the tannery!
Its obviously been too big a task for the owners of the tannery and its showing that despite having the ability to turn something basic into a new hip entrend building that they clearly lack the ability to manage timings and customer service skills! 2 of the most important things in their industry. i wonder hw long it will take for the tannery to turn in to what used to be the chest nut lodge! i doubt very long!

Went on sunday around 530pm. My friend was tellin me how nice her last visit had been….so stayed for something to eat.. We both ordered the chicken enchillatas..Oh my god, disgusting!Tortilla wrap was cold, No Rocket in the rocket salad and horrible soggy had been frozen breaded goujons, which were luke warm!...waitress never once asked was everthing ok, even when taking our plates away, mine had most of meal on it! We had to call her back. Her reply was ‘you should have said earlier’.. No one asked! and ‘ill see what the craic is in the kitchen…. was told the food was fresh and she had seen the rocket in kitchen!! so felt im the liar.. no response or appologies just the bill and a horrible taste in my mouth! oh sorry was offered a drink but was driving and just leaving! Awful customer service and a rotten meal.. shame as i was lookin forward to it!!

Was eating at the tannery last Saturday evening and it was a fantastic experience. All our food was cooked to perfection with good portions and absolutely delicious.
Some people complain about price but if you want good quality food like at the Tannery you are going to have to expect to dig that little bit deeper!
Service was also brilliant, we were greeted by a young girl named Alison and she was the perfect hostess, always upbeat and making us feel very welcome and comfortable.
Will most definitely be back and 100% recommend the Tannery for a great meal!
05/09/10
Mediocre menu, but seasoned correctly. Portions are very inappropriate for what the price is. The lighting in the dining room was so poor I couldn’t see my meal. The staff could have been more trained….hardly any communication skills given to customers!
It’s such a pity as the location is good as its close to the M1 and such a shame that the management dont take these reveiws seriously.
4 of us were eating, 4 starters, 4 mains, 2 desserts, 8 side orders, 2 bottles of wine = £218???? Totally disgraceful as the side orders were SO tiny we had to double up the order…..plus we were charged £3.85 for a tiny gravy boat??? We had four of these as they were so small.
Totally disappointing as we were all looking forward to a nice meal but the lack of ambience, lack of character and the disgracefully over priced meal…left an awful taste in our mouths.
We will not be receommending it to anyone and will defeinitely stay clear!!

Booked the only slot available for 6:15 on a Friday evening.
We had to hunt for someone to show us to a table, although there were plenty of staff standing around talking.
Service was generally slow and waitresses generally occupied.
Beer with meal was not cold, hate that.
The table that we sat at was pretty dark but this was brightened up with the conversation at the next table.
Thought the food was a bit expensive, for what it was and the sides were a bit small.
“Luxury Ice Cream”.......define “Luxury”
Full of ice crystals..a little crunchy.
We got the bill and waited 5 minutes for someone to come and take the payment.
Had to hunt someone to take our money.
Not impressed at all.
29/08/10
Service was spot, steaks were amazing (m/r sirloin & a m/t rib-eye, rib-eye was closer to rare, but that doesn’t cause me any issues).
Staff quick & friendly. Either the Patterson’s have been listening and getting the wait staff to raise their game or some people are really picky. It’s not cheap, we shared a starter, 2 steaks, 2 drinks, 2 deserts & coffee & a tea = 70 quid.
We had the taco tower for starter, was more like 3 large poppadoms, but served it’s purpose :-)
Steaks were well seasoned & full of flavour.
26/08/10
i went here with a few old friends and have to say we had a lovely night and the food was nice, but did think the side dishes where a bit over priced, it worked out just for dinner and juice £40 each, i dont mind paying that but i also want a bit of value, side dishes are only big enough for 1 person, so we had to buy 8 !! i would have given it another star if the side dishes size was just that bit bigger,
20/08/10
The food was good, nicely cooked and presented. I had pork and my husband had steak. The chips and cheese mash were great. The staff took a long time to come and take our order when the restaurant wasn’t very busy. The restaurant was very clean and has a nice decor. When I visited there was no music and it didn’t have much atmosphere. I would recommend it, although it is slightly on the more expensive side.
20/08/10
Staff very pleasant and the service was good.
However the dining area was too crowded and the seats tables were not private enough.
My girlfriend had a great meal but sadly my own meal turned out to be the worst I have had in my life.
Mananger sorted out the problem for which I was grateful but I had expected better.
Foodie45 please do not reply to this review as you are clearly associated with the Tannery and you are doing them no favours.
It has not gone unnoticed that you are replying to most bad reviews.I know that I had a bad meal. How can you comment when you were not there?

Met an old work friend 3 months ago and it was - Wow!!! Staff efficient, menu extensive and food unbelievable. Now we are going on Sat night with a couple of friends as I promised my hubby a great night out. I would advise anyone to pop over for a meal - you won’t regret it.
Yve.

Great welcome though no room in restaurant initially. However we were seated in the lounge by very efficient greeters who had us sorted and dining within 40 minutes. Menu good, staff brilliant, food even better and location handy.
Very impressed and look forward to next visit.
10/07/10
I was recommended to come to The Tannery but I have to say I was very disappointed. Staff were unwelcoming to start with and unpleasant taking orders. I came with my family including two children-not a family friendly restaurant at all so if you have kids this is not the place to take them. After the waitress took our orders I asked if there were any children’s meals the waitress said there is a children’s menu, why wasn’t I given one?? I found the waitress rude. The restaurant lacked atmosphere and manners! Meal was average.
Definitely would never recommend I’m afraid!
30/06/10
Excellent food.
Friendly service.
Gr8 location.
Would have got 5 stars only they forgot to come back for dessert order.
Will def go again.

We arrived at our B & B last night after driving all day in the rain. We asked where a nice restaurant was and we ended up at the Tannery. There apparently are 2 sections and only one was open last night. The decor was very nice. The service was very good. We have been travelling for about 3 weeks and our dinner last night was the best one so far. The food tasted good and the prices were reasonable. We may go again!
28/06/10
went last night to it with my family my sons got the 8oz steak with chips and it was freezing and tasted like dirt and have tasted better in mc donalds. me and my wife got the turkey and it was cold and reahted again and the vegeatbles were all black and bluemolded the turkey was small portions and very cold. the desserts were terrible and the strawberries on the cheesecake were all blue inside. my wife got the tea and i got the coffee and it was freezing when we got it. we had to wait 2 hours in the lounge before we got to our table and my wife was just about to walk hen they came to bring us to are table. the staff were not friendly and the table was covered in chewing gum under the tablecloth would not recomed this to anybody it was are first visit and our last i have got better in mc donalds. terrible!!!!!!!
22/06/10
Attended a birthday celebration for thirty guests. Staff couldn’t be any more helpful with arrangements. On the night the service and quality of food were second to none. I am disabled and the staff were helpful to me without being patronising. It was a joy to see waiting staff blending into the background but steping in when a wine glass needed to be replenished. If you are looking for a function venue, the tannery is well worth a look
20/06/10
i can understand that everyone has there own opinion. but some do have to understand that restaurants have there good days and their bad days.
second chances are there for a reason. but yet again everyone has their own opinions.
staff are under pressure including managers and including the owner.
and i do not want to be bias towards any side but the majority of this websites comments are good.
yet again restaurants have good days and bad days .... and by the looks of this page . the tannery has had more good days than bad . and i am looking forward to eating there.
PS. foodie45 i am glad that you enjoy the tannery or may be associated with. but instead of criticizing peoples comments and in some cases being rude ... you may want to help them out in some way as you are ASSOCIATED with the tannery . but like i said i look forward to eating at it.
19/06/10
I contacted the tannery today to discuss vouchers i had bought as a christmas gift for family.I was advised that the vouchers had now expired and they could no longer be used as they only last three months. As I had spent £70 on two sets of vouchers I asked was there anyway this could be extended and the supervisor I was speaking to said no - they give an additional 2 months but this is not advised to customers. I explained that i wasnt very satisfied at this as I had given them £70 of my money that was now lost and at no time did the staff member make any attempt to do anything to help me with the situation -not very good customer service!i explained that i wouldnt be promoting the tannery even though it would be one of my local restaurants and that i was very disappointed in the way she had handled my problem.Bad service is talked about much more than good service and unfortunately i will not be supporting my local restaurant due to bad customer service and an unwillingness to offer any help to me.
13/06/10
Arrived for the carvery and got seated resonably quickly. Got the starters which were abit of a mixed bag although my wife liked the soup and then waited an hour for the mains, excuse was that they had no meat left. Was offered a complimentary drink which was appreciated. Main course was cold, tastless and most of the sides looked as if they were sraps left over and reheated, they barely had enough vegetables left to feed 3 adults and tried to strech everything out as best they could. Sweet was ok but nothing great. Staff where very friendly and coud not fault the most of them but when i complained at the end of the evening was just told sorry by the very obnoxious bar tender and not offered a dicount.
Would not recommend and will never be back.
Avoid Avoid Avoid!!!!!

My husband and I visited the Tannery this evening on our way home from Hillsborough. On ariival we were seated in the Bistro within about 10 minutes. The menu was varied with an excellent choice. The staff looked after us really well and food was served promptly. The food was delicious!!!. Great place! It was our first visit and it most definitely not be our last!

Travelling from Omagh, hunger got the better of me so I thought i’d stop of for some dinner seeing as it was 8pm and I wasn’t feeling much like beginning to cook when I got home to Stoneyford, give the wife a night off too :) I’d seen the signs for The Tannery of the moira rd, and noted the reviews here on lookaly also, so decided to give it a go.
It’s a quality place. The decor is great, the atmosphere is relaxed, and it’s clean and bright. We got a window seat which I always like. I ordered the sirloin steak with sides of chunky chips and peppered sauce. Onion rings, tomato and mushrooms came with the steak. Had my steak medium/rare - was very good. My wife had the same, though she got her steak very well done and had a side of mash. We didn’t want to break the bank, and it’s not a cheap place - so we just had the one course, with water to drink, costing £37. It’s steep enough, but the quality is great. I’d recommend.
Service: 5/5
Quality: 4/5
Value for Money: 3/5
Cleanliness: 5/5

i recently dinned at the tannery and i dont think i have been ever so disappointed in the food. I opted for the spatchcock chicken and when it arrived it turned out to be half roast pre-cooked chicken which is only served in cafe’s, all the sauces tasted like they were from a jar, the only good thing was the waiting staff but will not be back, would not reccomend if you like good food.
17/05/10
was really impressed with the tannery had a table booked in the restaurant on sat night and when we arrived we were shown to the cocktail bar were we had a quick drink before being shown to our table. The decor was outstanding in the restaurant really my idea of lovely surroundings. The tables were a tiny bit close which made me concious at the start but once we got settled I didnt really notice so much. We both had rib eye steak which was cooked to perfection and the food was lovely and hot. Can remember the last time I had a steak which was so nice. we also had roasted root veg, sweet pot gratin and chedder and bacon mash with pepper sauce and finished with baileys cheesecake which was devine. Only suggestion i’d like to make it a few more wines available by the glass, I would have loved red wine to compliment my steak however I couldnt have drank a full bottle myself. Will def be back
17/05/10
Given the reviews I wasn’t expecting much from the Tannery. However I must say that I was pleasantly surprised.
We had a party of 9 on Saturday night in the main dining hall. We were seated quickly, and had nothing but excellent service all night. The waitress could not have been better.
The steak was excellent, cooked to perfection. I had the cheese and bacon mash which was wonderful.
The modern decor suits the place well. And the round tables made it much easier to have a conversation with everyone involved. The long tables you get at other restaurants make it impossible to talk with someone more that a couple of seats away.
Only downsides were that it is a bit more expensive (but the food was worth it), and the bouncers in the night club are properly scary. I’m sure they put people off!
17/05/10
Went on friday night with my husband and didnt know what to expect as had read mixed reviews it was busy in the bistro which was a good sign we had booked the restaurant so didnt wait long at all,was surprised at the interior as it was so modern and thought the staff very nice and welcoming, the food was amazing especially the side order of cheddar and bacon mash, price was reasonable, couldnt complain but the customers who sat beside us seemed very fussy and i dont know how the waitress could stick them,so i think if fussy customers go there that says it all, cant wait to go back and try something else, would definitly reccomend to friends, very happy customer. :)
12/05/10
Service poor-and apparently if what the staff say is right they are over worked underpaid and dont even get a snack from food not seved that night-
food average -expected better-
Too pricy for basic food with fancy names-
Environment - clean and tidy if a bit over crowded- Gr8 location
Has potential if they can get it right its 3 miles from me but
Id still rather pay taxi to go to belfast restaurants-Shu, Metro, ink, james st south and foodie45 is protesting too much for someone without a vested interest!
02/05/10
Giving The Tannery 2 stars as their steak was excellent…... However we had booked a table in the resturant and shown to a table squashed in along with other tables on the left hand side. Another couple were squeezed in beside us, would put up with this at your local chippy but not what I expected when you are paying those prices! Private conversations were an impossibility as you could hear everything the couple next to us were saying. The starter (duck) was a bit disappointing. However the would try the Bristro if we ever go back. Decor is lovely.

Happened upon the tannery while driving around looking for somewhere to eat, arrived round 5 pm and were seated immediately in the bistro. Servers were very attentive, order was taken quickly and all food arrived within about 10-15 mins. Both had fillet steaks which were huge and delicious! Cooked perfectly also. Side orders were a little pricey but quantity made up for this. Asked for the bill but received a dessert menu instead, would have been a bit miffed were it not for the fact that they all looked delicious and we had to have some maple pecan pie :) really excellent experience all round, will definitely be back and i’m going to bring friends :)
25/04/10
Seems to be mixed reviews of The Tannery so I thought I’d give it a go myself.
Exterior looks lovely. I remember when this place used to be Chesters and it’s a huge improvement. Walk in and the environment is very welcoming and fancy. The venue contains a bar/bistro, restaurant and cocktail bar.
Being a steakhouse I had to go for the steak, the biggest steak being the 16oz fillet. Beautiful. Couldn’t fault it at all, well done just as I like it. Had mash potatoes, onion rings and peppered sauce to accompany.
The only thing I should point out is the cost - it is quite pricey. Sides (chips, mash, sauce etc.) are extras. Our meal came to just over £50 - this was with no starter, no dessert and water to drink. So you’re talking £100ish for a full sitting, but the quality does shine through.
Service was also great, we were well taken care of. We were able to make a reservation no problem for the restaurant.
Recommended for a special treat.

Ok - so mixed reviews for this place. I went with open mind in March at 6.30 (!) to avoid the rush still had to wait for 1hr15 for table and then a further hour for the food. Starter was great but main and dessert disaapointing. Paying extra for tiny jug of sauce for steak and sides made it an expensive night out. Wont be back - plough or pheasant much better.

I too think foodie45 works for The Tannery and by making the comments they do, it makes the place look like an amateur production, which is basically what it is.

The Tannery is the new answer to Heaven on a plate!! The place is Excellent, Food is amazing!! & Staff are very helpful & friendly.. I’ve been many times from it has opened… and not once was I disappointed.. Yes they had a few teething problems at the start.. but come on.. Everywhere does with a brand new place.. At the Tannery last night(Fri) at around 7:30pm with my wife. We were slightly apprehensive about a possible long wait for a table after having read some of the other reviews, but the initial teething problems with service have obviously been resolved as we were shown straight to our table. We were presented with what appeared to be a new menu, with lots of appealing and interesting choices, such as a “two way shepards pie” a modern twist on a classic, this was the best shepards pie ever! My wife opted for another interesting dish, a “fish fry”, a trio of salmon, monkfish and cod in a light ginger batter, served with asian peas, another superb and well crafted twist on a modern classic. Thoroughly enjoyed by both. We will definately return!

First time at this place since it was refurbished, and i cant say i’m impressed enough to give it a second visit. We waited nearly an hour for a table, ordered our meal, and waited approximately the same again for our main course, which admittedly was very good food, but i cant understand how 2 burgers and a kids portion of steak can take that long to cook. For me, service is an important part of the experience and the tannery seriously failed to deliver.

Took my wife there for our wedding Anniversary. Arrived up and told there would be a half hour wait on a table. Was given a couple of menus and told the waiter we would wait in the bar and have a couple of drinks. About 20 minutes later a very pleasant female came and took our order. Told us to finish our drinks and she would come for us when the meal arrived. True to her word she returned and showed us to our table. My steak was cooked to perfection and the sides were plentiful and very tasty. My wife had a monkfish dish which she thoroughly enjoyed.
Highly recommended.
If you want fast food I suggest you stop of at Macdonalds at Sprucefield. I hear their burgers are nice

Have been 3 times in the past two months during lunch time and once in the evening.
They certainly were a bit slow to serve the food on one of the lunch time visits but on every visit the staff were all very friendly and the food was 100%. On one of the lunch time visits I had with me a colleage who is a very plain fussy eater who could not see anything at all on the Menu he liked. On mentioning this to the waiter he said he would bring him a pate of chicken and chips with no sauces and my friend thoroughly enjoyed this.

went to the Tannery tonight for the first time.Cant believe i havent been before now as i only live up the road! The food was fantastic! My husband and i took a friend who was staying with us from Sligo and he said it was the best meal he has had in ages! The service and decor are first class! Cant wait to go back.

i recently went to the tannery for a meal. the food took too long to come out. when it did it was cold and mostly tasteless. the decor was a vast improvment, however when it was chesters the decor may not have been great, but the food was served quickly, it was hot, and had taste. the tannery seems to have alot of staff who dont really know what they are doing. i remember chesters being packed at times with one young lad being able to cater for 3 dozen patrons. i think this was the past owners son who was very helpful, friendly, knew alot about the food and always smiled, which the present staff failed to do. patterson bros, give this lad a job! ive been all over the country eating out and the service he provided was proffessional. he would be a great asset to your restaurant. anyone else with the same views, please state in your review as any of my friends and colleagues agree.

took my son to the tannery this evening for dinner, the whole thing was excellent. the staff were friendly and attentive and the food was delicious and excellent value. i picked up a menu for the restaurant on my way out and look forward to my next visit!

went to the tannery for my husbands birthday on 12 march. have heard a lot of good things so was expecting a lot…
good points
waiting staff pleasant and courteous
portion sizes good (almost too big)
food lovely
bad points
we were seated in what was clearly the nightclub and so there was zero atmosphere
was very busy so hard to attract attention of staff
I ordered the jumbo prawns which come with heads and tails on - no problem but no finger bowl so messy fingers
The only wine they offer by the glass is the house wine
husbands steak not cooked to order
all in all its a “could do better” given that it set me back almost £100 - felt that they were trying to pack too many people in with the result that staff were rushed off their feet.
14/03/10
i was at the tannery nightclub last night called “touch”
i had heard it was not supposed to be any good but my girlfriend wanted to go as it was her birthday so we decided to give it a try.
they say strictly over 23 but the bouncers checked id on all of us with my girlfriend being 22 and one of our friends just turned 18 so that turned out not to be true. (why strictly 23 then)
when we walked in we knew we had made the wrong choice.
The place was good looking but pretty vacant and lacking atmosphere.
this was at 11pm and 2 people on the dancefloor to the tune of “rock the boat”
then shortly after 12pm i spotted my girlfriend being grabbed really roughly by the arm by the male bouncer and escorted outside.
i approached the bouncer to ask what the problem was and he told me to F**K off or he would slit my throat and s**t down my neck.
she was bewildered by what had happened but he said my girlfriend had spat drink down his neck.
small problem with that as he had went onto the dancefloor to grab her and secondly i was holding her drink?
when this place used to be chesters it had a bad reputation and its looking like mud sticks. again let down by its badly trained bouncers who should learn that any situation can be dissolved by simply asking someone to leave
my advice overall is that if you are over 40 and fancy a boogie then this might suit you but it is a bit of a ghost town

I was at the Tannery last night. Have been to the bistro before but this time it was the restaurant. Our table was for 9p.m. So while waiting we sat in the cocktail bar. OMG the smell of the drains was unbearable. It smelt like sewage. My friend advised them to run the water and this seemed to help a little. But this def needs to be looked at.Puts the staff in a very embarrassing situation. And no atmosphere in the cocktail bar. We got our table about 9.10 pm. The staff were lovely. Very attentive. We got our starters about 15 minutes after ordering and then our main meal in about another 20 minutes. Most of us had steak, and it was cooked to perfection. It was beautiful. We had a lovely night, but I must admit I do prefer the bistro for ambience and overall effect. But we couldnt fault the staff or the service. Just the smell of the drains beforehand. I would certainly recommend it and we will be back, although prob to the bistro.
Diane.

I have visited now on several occasions and thought i would offer my humble opinion…..... my first visit was the week after it opened and i must say the food was brilliant even if some of the more junior staff left a little something to be desired. however as i have visited several more times i have found the team to be gettin into there stride and now there seems to be more stable faces around. im guessing the teething problems at the start were due to a mix of a new venue and new staff (i have noticed some staff from other patterson venues working there - which was pleasing as a regular to the other restaurants aswell) for people who have not been sit back and look around you and you will see the effect and time which has been and still is put into your experience. as with anywhere some nights will be better than others but over the years i have generally been exceptionally pleased and i am glad of another addition to the family business!

Have been to The Tannery twice now & I would highly recommend it! It’s an extremely busy bar and restaurant (restaurant is fully booked weeks in advance) but it also has a bistro that’s first come first served. Although there was a wait we were well advised about it and had a drink in the bar beforehand. We were seated on time & our order was taken as quickly as possible. The food was superb and cooked to a very high standard & it was nice to have something a bit different. As I said it was very busy and I think the staff are very pleasant and cope brilliantly under the pressure. I would say there were over 100 people there that night and it would be very naive not to expect a small delay. The restaurant is also outstanding! Booked a table and was seated exactly on time, again everything was very smooth and the staff were lovely. Loved the menu, wee bit dearer than the bistro but it was much more a la carte & fantastic! I would recommend The Tannery for everyone, its family orientated but the cocktail bar and Touch are also fabulous for a night out!

My wife and I have visited the Tannery Bistro twice within the last two weeks and were very impressed with both the food and the service provided. Since we had a family event soon we asked if it was possible to book a table in the bistro. The staff had explained that it was not possible to book a table. However they assured us that we would be looked after. My wife mentioned to one of the supervisors the date of the event and the numbers involved, he said that he would take note and advice the restaurant staff accordingly. Well after reading the other reviews I got a little concerned and decided to give a quick call i.e an hour before we planned to arrive. To my annoyance the member of staff knew nothing of our trip and further more told me that there were two other bookings for 12 that night and that it was very unlikely they could accomodate our party. When I mentioned that I was told that it was the policy not to take bookings they made an excuse saying the Manager/Owner took the bookings and that there was nothing they could do. Cut a long story short I then had to rush round and book another restaurant for a party of twelve an hour before the actual event. AGGGGGHH

Lovely building - attentive and pleasant staff. FOOD - terrible. Went for the first time to the carvery on Sunday 7th March and will never be back. The meat was all dried up, cold and nothing left except the ends. Potatoes and vegetables were stone cold. Spoke to one of the staff about it who smiled a lot but we still paid the full price. A complete rip off

oedered my table a week ago for a special occasion with my partner,I was told only time available was for 6.30. upon arrival we were placed at a huge table for 6 and told we had to be finished by 8.30!we ordered drinks at this stage, I asked if we could be moved to a table of 2, we were moved. Still no drinks 20 mins later and no orders taken. Another waitress brought drinks after re ordering.Food was pathetic, no veg or potato arrived. I ordered a side of root veg (£3.50!!), this was overcooked and shrivilled up. Nobody came to ask how food was, had to go looking for salt and pepper from another table. Awful service. A pity that the owners have not put as much effort into staff training as they did the decor! it’s on the plate that counts, we are not here to eat the drapes! after spending £66 for the privelige will never be back.

Our steaks were not cooked to how we ordered, howeverfemale manager was very courteous taking it off the bill. side order of chilli mash was disgusting. really should not be served to a dog never mind a restaurant. cheesecake was delicious. very overpriced.
dissapointment in main meal would definately put me off going back.
The least you would expect from a steakhouse is your steak to be cooked properly.

went to the tannery last night, thought the interior design was first class, very impressive. i went with 3 friends, our starters were lovely, garlic jumbo prawns delicious. 3 friends had steaks,2 of them not cooked to request asked, they did enjoy their steaks though.big portion but paying £18 so should be. mine was awful, duo of monkfish/salmon-tough leathery monkfish, asian veges(pak choi) strangled by creamy sauce, not nice at all. definitely wouldn’t recommend that meal. side orders nice.
the biggest problem is the service,so much attention has been paid to the overall ambience of the restaurant you would think the same would be applied to the service. whether it is a lack of training i don’t know. for example-brought jug of water-had to ask for glasses, took ages to come. 3 steaks-had to ask for steak knifes, 4 coffees had to ask for milk. wine took forever to come and the waitress at no point asked if we enjoyed our meal.

I went to the bistro section on a friday evening at this restaurant with my girlfriend, I heard a lot of good reports about the food from friends and colleagues, however I was extremely disappointed firstly when we arrived at the restaurant-we were greeted and told that there was a 30min wait for a table(that was fine) however we were not even offered to order any drinks while we waited on the table. At the table we ordered our food(starter and main course) the starter section of the menu was very limited and the terminology of the menu seemed quite foreign(look at menu online and you will understand) The starter came and it was extremely bland, the meat was very greasy and tough, the tortila wrap was of poor quality and the shell of the taco was soggy, the main’s followed (2 steaks) my steak was over cooked - as I asked for it medium to rare, vegetables were nice, the champ was to dry, the waitress we had seemed uninterested and did not ask how we found the meal(even though she asked the couple next to us, this might be as I left a large portion of my steak behind)I did make a point of stating these facts to the waitress when paying the bill but she did not seem to bothered. I also feel the food was overpriced. In conclusion I feel the Tannery has a lot of catching up to do compared to its sister bistro(the Plough hillsborough), overall as I have said earlier both myself and my girlfriend are very disappointed and would not go back!

The Tannery is having huge success at the minute, it’s restaurant is fully booked every weekend. It offers a first come first serve service in the Bistro, this allows ANYONE to get a table, it is one of the few restaurants in Northern Ireland who do this.I think it is a great idea, so instead of it being fully booked up weeks in advance I could just walk in and ask for a table. My food was great and to a very high standard, offering a diverse menu. The staff are coping brillantly under pressure. There was a wait, but this was due to the high demand of the Bistro, I would like to see any restaurant deal with over 100 people and not have a delay.I would recommend this for everyone, it is stylish and traditional at the same time; offering a unique menu with some old favourites. I have booked a party for this weekend again!

Went to the Tannery on Saturday evening with my wife and another couple. Food and service was excellent, didnt realise there was a nightclub called touch, went in for 1 drink, and ended up staying the whole night. Music was excellent, everything from the 70’s to now. Was very busy. DJ was very good. This will now be our regular Saturday night spot as there is no were else near us that caters for the over 25’s when it comes to music.
16/02/10
Arrived 7.30pm, not seated until 9pm and food arrived at 10pm Average food, paltry compensation for long wait was a few potato wedges and onion rings!Stay clear until it is possible to book a table. Staff offered lame excuse for inability to book is because some people don’t turn up.Get you act together, the eight people in my group will certainly be telling others not to go.

went with a group of 25 people who all enjoyed their meal!
staff were more than helpfull and the food was fantastic!
i would recommend it to anyone!

Went with hubby and child, food was great, my son has a big appetite and struggled to finish his food. This is the 3rd time for us. Previous comment ref: childs raw burger was a fiaco, we were at next table and those folk should’nt be allowed near any food establishment due to the big fuss they made, very rude and ignorant, totally uncalled for.. shame on you..
Place is beautifully decorated and good prices for a little fine dinning. Staff are helpfull and had loads of patience with my son, which makes it a lot easier for us. Will be there again…

Was at restaurant in Tannery last night and it was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful as one of us was in wheelchair. It is very nicely decorated and the food was excellent.I would highly recommend it.

Went to Tannery on Saturday evening with my wife and two kids. The food was fabulous - check out the asian platter for 2. Great atmosphere. The service was excellent. This is my 3rd trip to the Tannery - it gets better every time.
The kids menu is great value and they loved it.

ordered a cheeseburger for my 4 year old son off kiddies menu.noticed it was completely red-raw inside but burnt on the out.he had eaten half of it.got lame apologies from female manager & told chef & general manager derek patterson were not available to hear my very understandable complaint. will not be back.informed lisburn council.awaiting phonecall from mr patterson.staff on duty tried everything to get raw burger out of my hands.do not recommend to anyone wishing to take their young children for an enjoyable family meal.

AWFUL!!!90 minute wait for totally mediocre food, served with disdain by probably the most unpleasant waitress i have ever meet!
28/01/10
Great steaks and extremely good service. It was very busy on Friday and we had a good wait for a table, but it was worth it. This is a great steakhouse, but not a heath-food restaurant!
I was much too full for desert.

Had a ‘night out’ with work colleagues in The Tannery, Moira just before Christmas. Excellent food and service. Now I have to take my wife there!
