Went to Tony Romas last nite as a birthday treat for our son, who had been here before and always enjoyed his meal, such a dissapointment!  The steak was overcooked, shrimp dish inedible and chips cold. Needless to say we wont be returning as for the money there are much better eating establishments that offers better food and value for money :(

We got a cab from our hotel to Tony Roma’s in Belfast, which is close the Queen’s University. On Saturday night this establishment was very busy and we had to wait quite some time before we were shown a table, perhaps forty minutes.

We were given a numbered card and sent upstairs to the bar on the 3rd floor. I don’t think there was a lift, so we walked up the rather steep stairs.

The bar wasn’t particularly busy, though the one member of staff on duty was struggling to serve about four of us at the counter awaiting drinks.

Downstairs in the restaurant it was packed with diners. Again, we had to wait ages for our orders to be taken and delivered to us. Although the staff are quick and efficient, the kiltchen must be struggling to keep up.

My friends had the ribs, which they professed to be delicious; I had the Cajun burger, which came fully dressed with salad and a large portion of fries - far too many for me.

The burger was good and meaty - very filling. I barely managed to finish it, in fact.

By the way, their coleslaw is good: home-made, very thinly cut, hardly any mayonnaise; quite unlike shop-bought stuff.

We had no room for dessert, so I settled up the £63 bill (which included drinks) and we took our leave.

We went to Tony Roma’s last night as we’d been there quite a few times before… It was terrible I ordered the sword fish, I specifically asked is the fish fresh or frozen, I was told Oh its very fresh, I thought ok I’ll give it a go, I ordered it to be served blackened with kickin sauce, OMG it was horrendeous, I couldnt cut it with a knife as it was so overcooked, but the middle was complete mush, (no sauce was provided), the “swordfish” came with extremely overcooked broccoli and rice.  I would advice everyone to avoid this dish like the plague.  My husband and children had the ribs which they thought were as good as they usually would be.  Lesson learnt - don’t try anything other than the ribs or burgers in Tony Roma’s.

After a recommendation from a friend I thought I’d take my girlfriend to Tony Romas for a meal.  For 7 o’clock on a Friday I was pretty empty which was a surprise.

Starters: I ordered the Onion Loaf which was basically a greasy tower of onion rings with a dip plunked in the middle. My girlfriend ordered the flat bread which was a pizza sort of thing which was quite nice (wish I’d ordered that too).

Main: We both ordered the BBQ chicken which was a bit bland.  Basically half a chicken thrown on a massive plate beside a load of chips.  Was OK but nothing special.

Once our plates had been lifted and drinks finished we waited for about 10 minutes before being offered another one but by this stage we just took the bill and left.

Wasn’t impressed and wont be rushing back but maybe I should have tried the steak or ribs seeing as thats their signature dish…

Tony’s was good back in the day but now they have cut there portions and the quality off the food has gone down hill, not great anymore.

Doesn’t seem much better than a fast food type of setup to me, nice enough inside but food isn’t to my liking. The brownie desert is the size of the entire plate, which is either a good thing or a bad thing. For me it’s not that great, I’d rather a small bit of something delicious than a big chunk of something mediocre. Staff have always been nice though.

Food was ok but I expected much better. Staff seemed disorganised and drinks took a while to arrive. Portions were either disgustingly huge or far too small and child pizza was a frozen one that had been zapped in a micro. Not sure if I’d go back 

I totally disagreee with all the bad reviews on this website, personally i worked in tony romas as a bartender when it first opened 5 years ago, the food is like nothing else is belfast, to the people who think the food is mass-produced, the only thing that is, is the barbeque sauce, food is made from fresh in the prep kitchen on the second floor, also fresh deliveries are made every-day, well at least it was when i worked there, springsteens is no-where near as nice as the food in tony romas, yes its over-priced i do agree with that but for the size of the protions you get and the food that you get i think its well worth it, the service isnt great because the place is normally packed out, the training when i was there was second to none, they bring trainers from america over to train you in everything you need to know, the waiters/waitresses and barstaff know everything about the food/wine and history of tony romas, well they did when i worked there, if you want ok food and a decent atmosphere go to springsteens or tgi fridays which are typical steakhouses with burnt ribs and terrible burgers and steaks, if you want good food go to tony romas, in northern ireland the only place that ive tasted that does a steak like tony romas is deans!

Food itself can be tasty, if clearly reheated in the case of the burgers some in our party got. But considering you can get fresher and larger in Springsteen’s just down the road for , quite literally, half the price, it’s just not worth the palaver. Poor service, long wait and some food was a little cold.

Went to Tony’s to celebrate mum’s 50th. Absolutely fantastic.

I’m not much of a ribs fan but Tony’s do the best rack of ribs I’ve ever tasted. Was lucky enough to sample some off my girlfriend’s plate. I went for the 10oz fillet steak, well done, cooked to perfection. That along with mash potatoes, french fried onion rings and peppered sauce. Can’t beat it.

Our waiter was very good, providing us with free soft drink refills before we even had to ask, and brought out the birthday cake on cue.

Shared a brownie for dessert and well glad we did as it was absolutely massive with fresh cream and ice cream (see photo).

Overall a terrific meal. I recommend the ribs or steak and brownie for dessert. And make sure you make a reservation as it was packed out.

I have to agree with every word in Neanderphils’s review. It’s unusual for there to be NO redeeming qualities in a restaurant - Tony Romas wins this award at least.  Just want to add to N-phil’s by saying, Tony Romas is ludicrously over-priced for poor quality food and lacking in any atmosphere at all. One of the few places I have been that I would NEVER go back to.

After a few days at Q-Con and the stale sandwiches in the shop, about 25 of us all bombed down to Tony Roma’s.  Pre-booked so in we went.  Somebody ordered the Onion loaf and that fed the whole table of about 12.

Staff were nice and accommodated last minute additions to the group.

I had the 10oz rib-eye steak done medium. Lovely and tender with a little pink in the middle - perfect.  It did take a while to be served, but the place was bunged and we were having too much fun blowing off steam chatting away.

It is not cheap, but it is not overly expensive.  Would recommend it for groups - not sure about individuals yet.  Have to go back and try out their ribs, which i have heard so much about.

Monster portions american style. Good atmosphere, lively, not bad service if not a bit in your face. Food is tasty and well priced.

Having been to quite a few American-style steakhouse restaurants (including a handful in the USA), I can’t help but feel Tony Roma’s just doesn’t cut it. The steaks are passable but just not good enough (though the ribs are exquisite). The decor isn’t true western-style but tries to be upscale, and fails at that. And if you want serving staff trained in ‘American hospitality’ you’re better off at TGI Friday’s.

Have you people no tastebuds or sense of situation?

Tony Romas is what it is, an American chain rib house in Belfast. I.e. You get Belfast staff who have been half trained in American hospitality (certainly an experience), ribs that are almost there but not quite and massive portions.

Don’t get me wrong, chicken wings and ribs are all full of awesome win, but this is not a fine dining establishment.

If you want good (not excellent) ribs and American fayre, then come here.  If you want an experience to remember (aside from a bloated gut due to volume of food), go elsewhere, like cayenne or balloo house.

It’s still good and I will be back as I loves the pork goodness.

Tony Romas is a very safe option if you have no idea what kind of food you are in the mood for.

The startersare HUGE, in fact everything is completely massive and you usually have to indulge in a spot of strategic ordering because by the time your main course arrives you will have absolutely no room left to deal with it.

By far their ribs are the best, absolutely melt in the mouth. Their burgers I’m told are fabulous as my dining companion left not a scrap on his plate.Their fries although plentiful taste of not very much.

Essentially if you want large portions and decent filling food then Tony Roma’s is the one for you, if you are after an intimate fine dining experience, give it a miss. Avoid at all costs on a Sunday afternoon unless you are bringing your children because it is absolutely packed with screaming kids.

You will love the ‘food’ in Tony Roma’s if you have been living on Noodles for a year, if you have an addiction to MSG or you have just crossed the Sahara with nothing to eat but the mites from inside the camel’s ears.

This is without doubt, the best place I have ever consumed food in Northern Ireland.

Yes it’s pricey, yes you wait for ages, but God it’s worth it. The food speaks for itself, the Onion Loaf, the Loaded Potato Skins, and that’s only the starters! The main courses are to die for, in fact, if I end up on death row, I’ll be ordering a Tony Roma’s as my last meal.

Went with my mum on a Wednesday night. It was a totally different experience. There was a nice American lady who greeted us and we had a good waiter too.

We were not rushed as it was early-ish and it was pretty empty.

Looks like Tony’s can only cope with quiet nights. But I won’t forget my valentines experience so I shall have to just give it 1 more star as I would never go on a weekend or on a special occasion. Eg: valenties

Food was fab like i have previously said in my first review.

Like the previous reviewer we also got asked to move on quickly due to the place being busy - but we were finished anyway so no big deal. Food is good - kinda expensive for what you get - but nice none the less. You could do much worse - a safe option

The swiss cheese bacon mushroom burger was just the thing after a trip to the QFT.  The bacon was thick and tough, but the rest was delicious.  Service was good, quite fast, but didn’t feel like we were being pushed into desserts (too stuffed to consider) or rushed out the door.

Would go back.  But not too often.

Tony Roma’s is easily the worst restaurant in Belfast. The seating arrangements are cramped and uncomfortable, I found myself having to constantly shift in my seat to make room for the waiting staff on another routine short-cut through the restaurant.

The food tastes like it has been mass produced in a factory and micro-waved in the “kitchen”. The cheese tastes fake and the steak tastes like rubber. The “cooks” are incapable of cooking a steak to order and the burgers dissolve in your mouth as if they have already been half digested by bacteria. I’ll not even mention the bacon (or fakon as it should be referred to).

The food is massively overpriced considering the quality of the food and the quality of other restaurants in the local area. The decor is drab and cheap and the “free” refills of coke taste like water.

This restaurant is not worth the money or the time. Do yourself a favour and stay well away.

Recently went in for a stag do and had a great evening.  We had the tables booked so striaght in and no waiting.

The selection of food was great much like a steak house.  I would have to recommend the onion loaf starter.  If you like onion rings its epic.

The only let downs where that the food took a bit too long to come.  One table had theres 15min before the other tables food arrived.

Again it was a little pricey.  For what is really an upmarket steakhouse!

Food was great though so thats why it gets four stars :)

Gorgeous food would give it 5 BUT i couldn’t possibly due to a very rude waitress! Yes it was valentines and yes it was busy! We had table booked-yet still had to queue at door! When in we got starters quickly but were warned we had 2 be out by 8 in a rude way!- fair enough but we waited AGES for our mains! Didn’t get them until 7.45 and we were told ‘hurry up look at the queue waiting to come in’ uh oh r time was up and we wanted dessert… Which was thrown at us and we were rushing to eat it as that waitress was pressuring us AGAIN HELLLLOOO not my problem! Very disappointed by the waitress! As I said food 5 but not service!
